The Philippines
So I am in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines right now. It is alright, it has unfortunately been raining since I arrived, but I met this really cool Filipino guy who has just been sailing around the world and is from here, so we have been chilling and I just met his American roommate from San Francisco who is also pretty cool, and they are letting me use their internet, so that is nice of them.
Manila was alright, getting to and from the airport in these things they call Jeepneys—army jeeps left over from when the Americans were here—was a bit frustrating, but I made it which is the important part. My flight from Manila to Puerto was fun. During the flight, the flight attendants got on the speaker and had a little Trivia section. One of the questions was ‘which movie is the line Im the King of the World from?’ And I was the first person on the flight to raise my hand, so I got one of those necklace things that you put your keys on, which I guess is something pretty useful, and practical gifts are the best gifts imo. Anyway, the descent was a bit scary. A lot of turbulence, which is never fun. But I don’t think a plane has ever crashed from turbulence, so I always have to remind myself that.
Met some cool Germans last night and we played cards until the wee hours of the night, and then when I was going to sleep, someone must have eaten something bad and began throwing up, and continued throwing up for about three hours off and on. Although it kept me awake, it didn’t really bother me, I really felt for the guy as I had been in that situation before, and lying in my bed, I was much better off than he was.
The Philippines is a very interesting country. First off, it is a Christian, mostly Roman Catholic country, which is VERY strange in Asia. English is an official language, so most advertisements are in English, and a lot of people can speak it, not everyone but many, and the coolest part is that EVERY street name is a Spanish name, and they use Pesos, so it is a little bit of everything here, which I really like.
Anyway I hear them planning a travel route for me to see the best beaches in Palawan, which is really sweet of them, so I guess I better go see what’s in store for me. I love friendly people!!
